    FAQ - Working with Images
How do I add an image to the label?

To add an image to the label, go to Insert > Picture and choose From File, From Image Library or External.

From File - This feature gives you the option to select an image located anywhere on your system. When you choose this option you will open the Insert Image window. You will now have the ability to navigate to any location on your computer to find an image. Once you have located the image, select it and click on Open

From Image Library - This feature gives you the option to select one of the images supplied with the MediaFACE 4 program. When you choose this option you will see the different folders; each containing a specific images category. Double click on one of these folders and then click on the image you want to place on the label and then click on Insert.

External - This feature gives you the option to select an image from a scanner or digital camera

Once you have chosen your image from one of the methods above, you will then place it on the label. This is done by positioning the mouse on the label and holding the left mouse button down. While the left mouse button is held down, drag the mouse to create a box. Once the box is the desired size, release the left mouse button and the image will be placed inside it.

I have an image on my label but I can't adjust the size of it nor can I use any of the features on the format menu to manipulate the image.

I always have trouble when I bring in an image from my scanner.

the problem usually has to do with the scan. When you scan an object (in this case a CD ROM, you must select just the CD ROM during the scan stage. If you do not, the scanner will scan the entire scan bed and convert this to an image. When you insert this into our program it will be extremely large. As it tries to fit the 8.5 x 11 inch scan you just did into a 4.5 x 4.5 inch label, causing the image to look distorted or you will see the image displayed very small on the screen. Please try the following.

    1. Prescan your image
    2. Crop the image, in the scanning program and then scan it
    3. Save the image as a jpeg image

The larger the font size, the better this text effect will look.

I put some text on my label. I then placed a picture on the label. Now I can no longer see the text.

It would be a good practice in the future to put the image on your project first and then put the text on. This way you have a better idea of what color your text needs to be based on the color of your picture.

To put your text back on top of your picture, left click on your picture and click format-send to back. Your text should now be visible on top of your picture.

How do I create a playlist in MediaFACE 4/5?

MediaFACE 4 offers the ability to I.D. or "fingerprint" songs on your yet to be labeled CD. MedaiFACE 4 connects to a CD database to identify the song title, album, and artist. Then all you have to do is add the list to your CD/DVD label or insert design. You will need an internet connection for the MediaFace 4 fingerprinting function to work.

If you want to fingerprint a CD, go to Tools > List Manager. When the List Manager Window opens, select Play Lists in the explorer window and then New. Where it reads <select playlist source>, choose Audio CD and then Build. The Audio CD Window will appear, select Identify CD. If your song information is in the our CD Database, it will be displayed in the status window. If the song information is not in the database it will display "unknown" or "unidentified" song. Once all your tracks are successfully identified click Build and then close the List Manager Window.

To place this on your label or insert, go to Insert > Play List and select the playlist you just created. Select the value you wish to display on the label (Artist, Title .), then OK. The information will now be displayed on the label or insert.

How do I calibrate my printer in MediaFACE 4

If you need to calibrate your printer, you can do so by going to Start > Programs > MediaFACE 4> MediaFACE 4 Calibration Wizard

The plain paper method for calibration should be used with a blank sheet of paper. Please do not use a label sheet, as you will need to fold the paper during calibration.

    1. Select the Plain Paper option and Click Next.
    2. Select your printer from the list.
    3. Select the paper type: Letter or A4
    4. Click Print.
    5. After the page prints, do the following: (these instructions also appear on the printed page itself)
    6. Fold the paper so that the two letter A's meet, being sure to keep the edges of the paper as even as possible.
    7. Crease the paper thoroughly, then unfold. (see printed page for details on folding)
    8. Repeat the process, but this time fold the paper so that the letter B's meet, being sure to keep the edges of the paper as even as possible.
    9. Crease the paper thoroughly, then unfold. (see printed page for details on folding)
    10. Locate where the Vertical (up and down) crease crosses the "A" line, and enter the number into the calibration screen for your "A" value.
    11. Locate where the Horizontal (left and right) crease crosses the "B" line, and enter the number into the calibration screen for your "B" value.
    12. Click Done.

You have now calibrated your printer.

I've calibrated my printer, but it is still not lining up perfectly.

If you need to tweak the calibration numbers, here are the steps to do so

NOTE: each increment will equal 1/32 of an inch (approx 1 mm)

  • A Value (horizontal)- increasing this value will move the printout to the right, decreasing this value will move the printout to the left.
  • EX - If your print out is 5 mm to far to the right, decrease the A value by 5. The next print will move 5 mm to the left
  • B Value (vertical) - increasing this value will move the print out down the page, decreasing this value will move the printout higher.
  • EX - If your print out is 5 mm to far down, you would decrease the B value by 5. The next print will move 5 mm up
  • IMPORTANT! When you are printing in the plain paper calibration, regardless of the number you enter, the axis will not move. The numbers will only change the print output when you are in MediaFACE 4 and printing the actual project in the MediaFACE 4 printer plug in window.
  •
When I try to print the labels, I get a message that says the paper size is too small.

Before you print the labels, click the settings button to choose a paper type that best matches the labels you're using. (use photo paper for our photomatte labels, photo glossy paper for our glossy labels,...). This improves how the printer handles the heavier paper . Don't choose the plain paper option unless you are using our economatte label stock.

NOTE: If you have a HP printer, look for a HP premium plus photo paper (matte or glossy setting).

The project looks good on the screen but I see lines on the image when it is printed.

Please try the following to help solve the printing problem:

If you have a HP laser printer:

Click the settings button on the print screen to open the printer properties window. Next, change the graphic mode from the default HP setting to the raster setting.

If you have a Lexmark or Compaq printer:

Click the settings button on the print screen to open the printer properties window. Look for the Document/Quality tab. Look for a Web Smoothing checkbox. If it is selected, de-select it and click OK to close printer settings dialog.

If you have a printer other than those listed above, you can visit your printer manufacturer's website to see if an updated printer driver is available. Updating the printer driver has been known to resolve many printing "anomolies" and is always a recommended first step when diagnosing issues such as this.

The colors on the printout don't match the colors on the screen?

When you go to print, are you choosing a paper style that matches the labels you are using (i.e. photo paper for photomatte label stock, photo glossy paper for our glossy label stock)? This will make all the difference in the printout

You can also test the print in a program other than MediaFACE 4. You can click on tools > export and export the image as a jpeg file. Open the file in Microsoft Paint or any program other than MediaFACE 4 and try printing it. If the colors on the screen still don't match the colors on the screen, the problem is with the printer.

I use A4 paper but when I go to print, I only see US paper choices in the papers column.
Please click tools > options > printing. Click on the radio button next to A4 and click apply > OK. The next time you go to print, you will see the proper paper choices. If you do not have this option, you will have to uninstall the program and then reinstall it. During the install, look for the paper selection screen and be sure to select A4.
